The Ice Tube Clock Kit

A new years project I got for myself this wonderful clock kit on Amazon. I just thought it would be a neat project to put together. It was a very time consuming project and took about 7 hours to complete. I carefully put this together like I always do, and ensure this will run for years!

Now this project was really easy for me because I know my stuff, and also there was already a nice tutorial on adafruit website for me to make sure I didn’t mistakenly put this together and have something precious like this to break. A lot of soldering skill needed for it also. To your left is a picture of all the parts that came with this kit! I Sorted them out, they came in one single bag.

Whats funny was how big this package was when it was shipped to me, yet it was was small. A lot of bubble wrap in the box it came in, But hey. Its well protected in the shipment, not going to complain about that haha!

The between pictures show the bulb for my clock display. I believe it was new old stock and was made in CCCP according the what I see labeled. The top shows the numbered digits. The bottom shows the back of the tube. You may ask what that black spot is on your right. I looked it up and well, its a  getter (Detail Here).

IMG_3008When i finished it! I plugged it in and YEY! It works! .. But wait Aw! 🙁 Its not Ice Blue! Its more Cyan blue. Darn! I can imagine it being ice blue.. haha. The reason why its not Ice blue was that I read up that well this was new old stock. They don’t make these tubes in the hundreds anymore! So assuming that its pretty out of stock for that specific ice blue tube. Or probably these were Older? maybe the inside faded its ice blue colors away. Who knows! but hey it works! 🙂

Also it was made just in time for the new years!
