These are in most computers. I was shocked describing to someone about this yesturday because they didn’t know what they were! So what is the difference between HDD and RAM? First off what do they mean?
- Hard Drive Disk ( HDD ) or just Shorten to Hard Drives (Don’t wanna say HD because its another word for it!)
- Random Access Memory ( RAM )
They are both store data/memory. The only difference is how they store or keep this data inside your computer.
-Hard Drives are very common thing to know in your computer. They will store all information that you save on your computer. They keep your data on it for a long time, even when the computer is turned off. They are generally slow.
-Well David. What is RAM then? RAM is also a type of memory in a computer. RAM is a temporary memory, when the computer shuts down it will not remember anything. Why the heck would you have a memory that doesn’t remember crap? Well the RAM is fast at storing quick data(Its very fast compared to HDD). It is used like a scratch paper when you do math tests… No ones gonna even care about your scratch paper, and it’ll go in the trash when you finish your test (Usually). The RAM will always sit next to the CPU because the CPU uses it for scratch paper work. [Hehe my terminology of scratch papers]
The benefits about RAM are they do have a really long lifespan. In fact they probably will last forever compared to HDD, the only draw back is them not remembering after the power gets cut off. Unless You attach a battery on it, as long the battery has juice :O you have a permanent memory. This has kinda been done, it is very rare to see it but I know its been done somehow.
The only terms I will push into this topic is RAM are Volatile memory, and HDD are Non-Volatile memory. Volatile memory means it won’t stay there forever.. in simple definition.
